ID CARD
Plastic card issued to all University faculty, staff, and students used for various University activities including charge-out of Library materials. Information on the card is utilized by the Libraries' computerized circulation system. See also COLORADO LIBRARY CARD.

III PAC WEB/PAC
A subcommittee of SAGE COORDINATING GROUP responsible for recommendations concerning all aspects of public displays on the ASCII and WEB version of the online catalog, SAGE.
ILL

ILL COURIER
A contracted agent not employed by CSU is responsible for delivering materials to/from CSUL and other libraries in the state of Colorado.  CSU is part of the High Plains Courier system; High Plains works with other courier systems to ensure a statewide delivery network.
IMO

IMPRINT
Place, publisher, and date of publication. Usually used to describe that information in a cataloging record.
IN PROCESS
Term to indicate material has been received in the Libraries but has not yet been cataloged.  For journal issues, they are held in a special location in the SERIALS SECTION and are available to patrons upon request.
INACTIVE SERIAL
Serial title that has either ceased publication, suspended publication until further notice, been canceled, or cannot be activated through claims or correspondence.

INC
Incomplete. Used on certain library records such as for items bound together incompletely; to indicate missing issues.
INCUNABULA
Works printed in Europe from movable type between 1454-1501.  Located in UNIVERSITY ARCHIVES.

INDEX
List of citations arranged by author, title, and subject. Can be in print or in electronic format.
INFORMATION AND REFERENCE (INFOREF)
Group within REFERENCE SERVICES responsible for 1) providing maximum access to information 2) location assistance in the book stacks,  3) service at the branch libraries, 4) help with ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY, 5) the evaluation of effective function and improvement of public service desks:  REFERENCE DESK, ELECTRONIC INFORMATION CENTER (EIC), Journal/Microtext Assistance Desk and 6) development of aids to research including electronic and print guides.
INFORMATION SCIENCE
Study of information-producing processes and systems.
IN-HOUSE BINDING
Bound by the PRESERVATION LAB as opposed to being bound by a commercial binder.
INITIALISM
Designation for a group of words using their first initials. For example, ILL, OCLC, etc.  See also ACRONYM.
INNOPAC
Also known as "Triple I" or "III". The Library's integrated library system which was implemented in l996. The public catalog is called SAGE. Innovative Interfaces, Inc., located in Emeryville, California, is the company that developed and maintains INNOPAC.
INNOPAC PRISM
OCLC software used to search for and download BIB RECORDS at the point of ordering.  A PRISM record will have a complete bibliographic MARC record.

INSTITUTION RECORD
Record in a UNION CATALOG that pertains to one of the cooperating institutions only.
INSTRUCTION GROUP
The REFERENCE SERVICES unit responsible for organizing and developing library instruction services and programs for all CSU constituents

INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO ACCESS CENTER (IVAC)
Instructional video viewing center. While in the IVAC, students can directly phone Classroom Support Services on campus and view instructional videos and classroom instruction recordings.  Located in MORGAN LIBRARY, in the EIC, 1st floor, west wing.  A list of videos can be obtained from Classroom Support Services.

INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM
Intellectual Freedom is the right of every individual to both seek and receive information from all points of view without restriction. It provides for free access to all expressions of ideas through which any and all sides of a question, cause or movement may be explored. Intellectual freedom encompasses the freedom to hold, receive and disseminate ideas.
INTERCOM
Public Announcement System (PA) at the Loan Desk.  (Technically not an intercom, but often called that by staff).
INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICES (ILL)
Unit of PUBLIC SERVICES DIVISION which handles the borrowing and lending of materials between this and other libraries.  Located in MORGAN LIBRARY, 1st floor.

INTERNAL NOTE
Field within SAGE order record used to determine processing when received. This may include information relating to another edition which has already been cataloged and VENDOR notification.
INTERNATIONAL POSTER COLLECTION
Special collection of posters, slides, ephemera and digital images housed in the Poster Room within Archives and Special Collections, Morgan Library. The collection is created from posters received from the Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition held biennially on campus. The majority of the posters are available on the International Poster Collection Web site.

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD BOOK NUMBER (ISBN)

The International Standard Book Number (ISBN)is assigned by designated agencies in countries publishing books to provide books, pamphlets, educational kits, microforms, CD-ROM, and braille publications with a unique identification number by which the item can be ordered. The number consists of 10 digits separated into 4 functional parts as follows; 1) One or more digits to represent the country or group of countries in which the item was published; 2) 2-7 digits of the publisher's prefix; 3) one or more digits to identify a particular title and to expand the number to nine digits; 4) and a check digit for a computer validity check. SAGE can be searched by ISBN.

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD SERIAL NUMBER (ISSN)
The ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) is an eight-digit number separated into two groups of four which identifies periodical publications as such, including electronic serials, and is assigned by the National Serials Data Program (NSDP). A single ISSN uniquely identifies a title regardless of language or country in which published. The ISSN itself has no significance other than the unique identification of a serial. The coordination of the ISSN is international, with registration at the national level where serials are published. In the United States, coordination is through the NSDP within the Library of Congress. SAGE can be searched by ISSN.
INTERNET
Series of inter-connected networks that span the world used to share and transfer information.  The WORLD WIDE WEB and EMAIL are part of the Internet.
INTERNET EXPLORER
Free Microsoft WEB BROWSER.
INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (ISP)
A company that provides INTERNET accounts and connections to individuals and businesses.
INTRAMURAL CARD  (IMO CARD)
An account card owned by the Libraries for use at the CSU Bookstore only for pre-approved purchases of supplies.  Available through the ACCOUNTING OFFICE.

INTRAMURAL ORDER (IMO)
A form to use when purchasing items or services on-campus that are to be paid for by the Libraries.  Issued through the ACCOUNTING OFFICE.
INVOICE
Bill received from a VENDOR.
INVOICE SYMBOLS
COD - Cash on delivery.
FOB – Freight on board.
NE, NEP – New edition pending.
NOP – Not our publication.
NYP  - Not yet published.
OP – Out of print, not available through regular market, publisher’s stock exhausted.
OS – Out of stock.
TOP – Temporarily out of print.
TOS – Temporarily out of stock.
OSI – Out of stock indefinitely.
BO – Back ordered.
ISBN

ISSUE
Single piece of a SERIAL.
ITEM RECORD
Record attached to a BIBLIOGRAPHIC RECORD that reflects the individual copies, volumes, or items pertaining to the record, so that each copy or  volume may be circulated separately.
