This protocol defines a mechanism for harvesting records containing metadata from repositories. Often used to distinguish remote databases such as those on SAGE, as opposed to CD-ROM locally loaded databases.ONLINE CIRCULATION SYSTEM System which inputs checkout and discharges of library materials directly into a computer without manual intervention.ONLINE COMPUTER LIBRARY CENTER (OCLC) Computerized library service and research organization based in Ohio. The Center operates an international network that libraries use to acquire and catalog books, order custom-printed catalog cards, arrange interlibrary loans, and maintain location information on library materials. Formerly called Ohio College Library Center. CSUL is a member and uses their database for cataloging.ONLINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOG COMPUTER TERMINALS used by patrons to access the Libraries' online catalog (SAGE) and the online DATABASES the Libraries subscribes to. OPEN ARCHIVES INITIATIVE (OAI) OAI is an initiative to develop and promote interoperability standards that aim to facilitate the efficient dissemination of content. OPENURL The OpenURL standard, first developed by Oren Beit-Arie, of Ex Libris, and Herbert Van de Sompel, is a protocol for interoperability between an information resource and a service component, referred to as a link server, which offers localized services. The underlying concept of the OpenURL standard is that links should lead a user to appropriate resources.
